We are saddened to share the news that Baraka, the well-known blind rhino at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, died on 16 August at the age of 31.
Baraka featured prominently in many of our programmes to Ol Pejeta and was a much-loved part of the visitor experience. A post-mortem examination has been carried out, although the results are not yet available and the cause of death has therefore not yet been confirmed.
Visiting Baraka was one of the major excursions offered at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, particularly because guests had the opportunity to see him at close range and learn more about his story and the Conservancy’s rhino conservation work.
Guests can still visit the information centre where Baraka was based, and the educational element of the visit remains available. The main change is that the feeding experience with Baraka is no longer possible.
We are sharing this update with our partners at ARP Africa Travel to ensure that guests receive accurate and up-to-date information when discussing visits to Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
