Travel update | 26 September 2026
New requirement from 1 October 2026
Foreign visitors entering mainland Tanzania must obtain inbound travel insurance from the National Insurance Corporation (NIC).
The Government of Tanzania has confirmed that the new requirement takes effect on 1 October 2026. The policy costs USD 44 per visitor, provides cover for medical emergencies and is valid for up to 92 days.
Arrange cover before travelling
The Ministry of Finance strongly advises travellers to obtain the required insurance before departure to help avoid delays or inconvenience on arrival.
Entering through Zanzibar?
The Ministry’s notice names the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) as the inbound insurance provider for foreign visitors entering through Zanzibar. Information is available on the
Zanzibar inbound insurance website.
If your itinerary includes both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, check the requirements and policy terms for your route before departure.
