Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Kigali

Upon arrival into Kigali, guests are met airside and assisted to their transfer driver before being transferred to their hotel. Overnight in Kigali on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2 – Kigali to Akagera National Park

This morning, drive to Akagera National Park, arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Overnight at the lodge on a full board basis.

Day 3 – Akagera National Park

Today features morning and afternoon game drives in the park, together with a boat ride on Lake Ihema offering views of the waterfowl that inhabit the lake. Dinner and overnight at the lodge on a full board basis.

Day 4 – Akagera to Nyungwe National Park

This morning, drive to Butare, stopping in Nyanza en route to visit the ancient palace of Mwami, a Rwandan king. After lunch at a restaurant in Butare, continue on to Nyungwe National Park, driving through the forest and arriving in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe

Today, venture into the forest to track chimpanzees. The afternoon is at leisure, or guests may choose to book a Colobus Monkey Trek, canopy walk or bird walk at additional cost. Overnight at the lodge on a full board basis.

Day 6 – Nyungwe to Gisenyi / Lake Kivu

This morning is at leisure, with the option to book a Colobus Monkey Trek, canopy walk or bird walk. Mid-morning, depart with a picnic lunch and travel to Gisenyi, enjoying spectacular views en route. Dinner and overnight at the hotel on a full board basis.

Day 7 – Lake Kivu

Today, spend the morning at leisure to enjoy the lake and the relaxed surroundings. Overnight at the hotel on a full board basis.

Day 8 – Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Early morning drive to Ruhengeri, the base for gorilla trekking at Volcanoes National Park. After a briefing, set out on foot in search of your assigned gorilla group. Once located, spend one unforgettable hour observing their fascinating interactions before returning to the park gate and transferring back to your lodge for lunch.

Day 9 – Ruhengeri

Morning at leisure, or choose an optional second gorilla trek or Golden Monkey Trek, with permits at additional cost. Lunch is served at the lodge, followed by an afternoon at leisure. Overnight at the lodge on a full board basis.
