Selous Kulinda Camp – Stay 4 Nights, Pay for 3

A fly-in safari from Dar es Salaam to the banks of the Rufiji River.

Spend four nights at Selous Kulinda Camp and pay for three, with return scheduled flights from Dar es Salaam, full-board accommodation and shared safari activities included.

The camp sits on the Rufiji River, about 6 km outside Nyerere National Park and a short drive from Mtemere Gate and airstrip. Its 14 tents are raised a metre above the ground, each with an en-suite bathroom and a veranda overlooking the river. Five deluxe tents also have their own private plunge pool.

Explore by land and water

Explore Nyerere National Park on game drives in open 4×4 vehicles, take a boat safari on the Rufiji River or join an escorted bush walk. Look out for elephant, lion, leopard, hippo, crocodile and the rare African wild dog.

Your safari package includes

• Transfers in Dar es Salaam to and from Terminal 1 at Julius Nyerere International Airport.
• Return scheduled flights between Dar es Salaam and Mtemere airstrip, including airport taxes and airstrip transfers.
• Four nights at Selous Kulinda Camp, with extra nights available on request.
• All meals from dinner on day one to breakfast on the last day, plus one private dinner.
• Two shared activities each day, chosen from game drives, boat safaris and walks. A full-day game drive with a bush lunch counts as both of that day’s activities.
• One shared night game drive, one boat excursion and one escorted bush walk arranged during your stay. Bush walks are for travellers aged 16 and over.
• Experienced English-speaking guides.
• All park and conservation fees and government levies.
• Flying Doctors emergency evacuation cover.

Your five-day itinerary

Day 1 – Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park

Transfer from your Dar es Salaam hotel, or from Terminal 2 or 3, to Terminal 1 at Julius Nyerere International Airport. Your scheduled flight, booked by Ranger Safaris, departs at 15:25 and arrives at Mtemere airstrip at 16:25. You are met on arrival and transferred to Selous Kulinda Camp in time for sunset, followed by dinner and your first overnight stay.

Dar es Salaam hotel accommodation is not included. Full board at camp excludes drinks and laundry.

Days 2 to 4 – Nyerere National Park

Choose from the camp’s shared morning and afternoon activities: game drives in open 4×4 vehicles, boat safaris on the Rufiji River and escorted walks. Alternatively, spend a full day in the park with a bush lunch, which counts as both activities for that day.

Your included night game drive, bush walk and boat excursion are arranged during your stay. All meals and overnights are at Selous Kulinda Camp, with drinks and laundry excluded.

Day 5 – Return to Dar es Salaam

Enjoy a morning at leisure before transferring to Mtemere airstrip. Your scheduled flight, booked by Ranger Safaris, departs at 12:15 and arrives at Terminal 1 in Dar es Salaam at 13:25. You are met on arrival and transferred to your onward flight or to Dar es Salaam city centre.

Extend your stay with additional nights at camp, including shared activities, or ask us about continuing your journey to Zanzibar.

Choose your tent

Choose a standard tent or a deluxe tent with its own private plunge pool. All tents have en-suite facilities and a veranda overlooking the Rufiji River.

Children under 16 qualify for child reductions; travellers aged 16 and over pay the adult rate. Third beds are on request and subject to availability. A third adult sharing a tent pays the full adult rate, and internal flights are charged at the adult fare. Bush walks are restricted to travellers aged 16 and over; children of any age can join the night game drive and all other activities.

Optional activities

Additional half-day boat safaris and walking safaris, full-day boat safaris and fishing on the Rufiji River can be arranged on request at an additional charge.

What is not included

International and regional flights; airport taxes other than those on tickets we issue; passport and visa fees; Zanzibar Infrastructure Tax where applicable; mandatory Tanzania or Zanzibar travel insurance; personal travel, baggage and medical insurance; guide gratuities, dining room tips and porterage; drinks and laundry unless specified; telephone bills and other personal expenses.

Booking and flight information

Flights operate on a minimum basis of four travellers. If fewer than four travellers are booked to or from Mtemere airstrip, additional seats may need to be purchased. Flight schedules are subject to change depending on airline load factors and the airstrips visited.

All passenger names must match their passports before ticketing. Flights are non-refundable once booked and ticket changes incur a charge.

Payment: Full payment is due 65 days before arrival.

• More than 65 days before arrival: flight costs only, as flights are non-refundable once booked.
• Between 65 and 46 days before arrival: 50% cancellation fee.
• 45 days or fewer before arrival: 100% cancellation fee.

Provisional bookings are held for up to 14 days and released automatically if not confirmed. Unless otherwise stated, confirmed services are payable under your Sales Agreement and subject to its cancellation terms. If no signed Sales Agreement is in place, our Standard Terms and Conditions apply.

Mandatory travel insurance

For travellers arriving in Mainland Tanzania first, including visits to Mafia Island, the programme requires travel insurance from Tanzania’s National Insurance Corporation before arrival. Apply for Mainland Tanzania insurance here.

For travellers arriving in Zanzibar first, including Unguja and Pemba, the programme requires travel insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation before arrival. Apply for Zanzibar insurance here.

As set out in the programme, travellers purchase one government policy based on where they arrive first and should print their confirmation for presentation on arrival. These policies cannot be included in the safari cost and are separate from the Flying Doctors evacuation cover. We recommend keeping independent travel insurance and supplementary emergency medical evacuation cover.

Before you travel

• Bring soft-sided bags only. Internal flight baggage is limited to 15 kg per person, including hand luggage. Excess baggage may be charged for or left behind at the pilot’s discretion.
• All passengers must carry their passports on internal flights.
• Travellers to Kenya and Tanzania may need proof of yellow fever vaccination. Please ask for our Entry Requirements for East Africa.
• US dollar notes printed before 2012, or notes that are torn, marked or worn, are not accepted.
• Transfers may be in two-wheel-drive vehicles.
• The itinerary may be re-routed or similar camps used if availability requires.
• Domestic flight costs, airport taxes and park fees may change without notice, and any increases will be passed on.
